A major road bridge traversing Huaihe River in northern Anhui, which is to be partially built by China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CREC4), has started official construction following a launch ceremony.
The launch ceremony of Yan’an Road Bridge and its Connection Lines kicked off with some 200 participants on October 18, 2023 at the construction site of CREC4 in Bengbu, a prefecture-level city sitting on both banks of the Huaihe River, and drew the participation of Liu Bo, Party secretary and chairman of CREC4.
The total length of the line is 2,733 meters, including the 2,270-meter-long super bridge traversing the Huaihe River. The river-spanning section is 840 meters long, with two towers for the cable-stayed bridge, and a main span of 420 meters, making it abridge with the largest span in the Huaihe River Basin.
While delivering a key-note speech on behalf the builders, Liu Bo noted that the project links both sides of the Huaihe River, and once completed, will largely ease the north-south traffic pressure in the central urban area, becoming another new landmark of Bengbu. During the construction process, CREC4 will stringently follow various work arrangements, and meticulously build it into a project that is “safe, high-quality, and green,” endeavoring to fulfill construction tasks of all types, he said.
The landscape of Yan’an Road Bridge adopts the design elements of “North-South Boundary” and “the Gate of Bengbu,” as Bengbu sits on the dividing line of China’s northern and southern regions, while the road bridge can serve as a gate on entering and existing Bengbu. The decorative colors on the top of the bridge tower are red in the southern part and blue in the northern part, marking a key geographical attribute as the north-south boundary, and giving the bridge tower a more distinct feature. The design of the bridge tower is an integration of gates and clam shapes, symbolizing the passing through a gate and striding towards a new future.
Upon completion, the road bridge will help effectively boost the city’s social and economic development, and speed up the connectivity between the two banks of the Huaihe River, providing pivotal transport support for building Bengbu into a central city in the Huaihe River Basin and in northern Anhui.
Leaders from Bengbu municipal government, Bengbu Urban Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd and Bengbu Key Engineering Construction Management Center also attended the launch ceremony, besides the participation of leaders from CREC4 First Engineering Co., Ltd and CREC4 Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd.
