Builders from China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CREC4), who are helping construct an intercity metro project in the Pearl River Delta region in Guangdong Province, have ushered major progress by fully connecting the project’s longest tunnel.
CREC4 builders successfully connected the tunnel on the right side of the section between Guangzhou South Railway Station and Dashi Railway Station of the Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring project on October 16.
As the first section of Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring project, the section between Guangzhou South Railway Station and Dashi Railway Station extends for 10 kilometers on both sides. It is the longest single section among the No 1 Bid of Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring project, and has a shield tunnel with a diameter of 9.13 meters. The shield tunneling, which needs to pass through area with complex geological conditions and with densely-located buildings above ground, calls for stringentengineering work.
The Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring project a pivotal route linking the east-west transport arteries of the Pearl River Delta intercity network. Upon completion, it will connect six intercity railway lines. By then, it only takes half an hour for the trip from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Baiyun International Airport, ushering in seamless connection between high-speed rail and aviation.
It will play a significant role in promoting the construction of an international comprehensive transport hub in Guangzhou, boosting the economic integration in the Pearl River Delta region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and enhancing the building of a world-class city cluster in the Pearl River Delta region.
