Constructors from China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CREC4), who are helping build the Wuchang section of Wuhan Metro Line 12 in Hubei Province, have completed excavation of the foundation pit for Gonggong Road Station.
Constructors from CREC4 Fifth Engineering Co., Ltd finished the foundation pit excavation on September 11, 2023, marking the beginning for the dash to the construction of the station’s main structures.
The Gonggong Road Station is an underground two-storey island-type platform, with a double-layer, single-column, and double-span box-shaped frame structure. Built with a method of open excavation as well as half-cover excavation, the station has five entrances and exits, two sets of high-wind pavilions, and its adjacent sections are constructed by using a shield-tunneling method.
As the station structure is quite near buildings on both sides of the road, and is adjacent to complex underground pipelines, it poses a lot of difficulties to CREC4 builders, such as tight construction schedule and tough construction management. Meanwhile, most engineering operations can only be done temporarily at night, making it a key construction site for Wuhan Metro Line 12.
With the successful completion of the excavation of the foundation pit at Gongzheng Road Station, the CREC4 builders promise to launch a construction boom by scientifically coordinating all sides, comprehensively advancing the construction and strengthening work safety control, and create a high-quality and reliable subway project that can last at least a century.
