Builders from China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CREC4) have fully connected the world’s first large cross-section rectangular curve conduit, located in Wuzhen Township of Tongxiang City in East China’s Zhejiang Province.
Constructors from CREC4 Shanghai Branch Co., Ltd connected the conduit project for the Main Road Fast-Transit Renovation (Urban Section) Project on Wuzhen Avenue on August 22, 2023, which will help elevate the transport capacity of Wuzhen Avenue and boost the traffic flow between Tongxiang city proper and Wuzhen Township.
The whole length of the conduit project is 162 meters long, with a total of 108 ring pipe joints, each weighing come 113 metric tons. To meet the special working conditions, the project department has brought in a tailor-made Tongcheng Pioneer pipe jacking machine, in a bid to safeguard accurate and controllable overall pipe shape. After 134 days of tough job, the CREC4 builders fully connected the last two pipe joints, 19 days ahead of schedule and laying a solid foundation for the full completion and opening-to-traffic of the entire project by the end of this year.
Compared to traditional open-cut construction, the Tongcheng Pioneer pipe jacking machine construction has such advantages as fast excavation speed and low engineering cost. Meanwhile, it has less impact on road traffic and few disturbances to ground formations, such helping protect the surrounding environment.
It has been learned that with the operation of the fast-transit renovation project, it will aid Tongxiang in becoming a pioneering city in the pursuit of high-quality development and building of a demonstration zone for common prosperity.
