The completion ceremony of a rainwater collection network, part of a sanitary sewerage network in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, was held on Nov 30, local time. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, president of Mauritania, and Zhang Jianguo, Chinese ambassador to Mauritania, attended the ceremony.

The sanitation network was undertaken by China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group. Both the Chinese and Mauritanian governments paid a lot of attention to the urban rainwater drainage project, the first in the African country.

The project will tackle the frequent waterlogging in urban areas and improve locals' living environment as well as their livelihoods, said the minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Mauritania at the ceremony.

Including four pump stations, the rainwater sanitation program significantly improves urban hygiene and promotes local economic development.
