China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CREC4), participating in building the Line 8 of Shenzhen Metro in Guangdong Province, has started to assemble a key shield machine, getting ready for the smooth commencement in the left side of the line’s Phase III construction.

Constructors from CREC4 Fifth Engineering Co., Ltd lowered the front shield components of Jinggangshan shield machine into the open-cut well on January 12, starting to assemble the machine for building the section between Xiaomeisha Station and Xiyong Station as the first work area of Line 8’s Phase III construction.

The Jinggangshan shield machine, with a total length of 110 meters, weighs some 600 metric tons and can generate a maximum driving speed of 80 millimeters per minute. To be used for digging the left side of the section between Xiaomeisha Station and Xiyong Station, it will dig in the open-cut tunnel from Xiaomeisha Station to Xiyong Station.

As the 12th metro line built and operated in Shenzhen, the Line 8 of Shenzhen Metro will pass through Luohu and Yantian districts. The first work area of Line 8’s Phase III construction, extending from Xiaomeisha Station to Xiyong Station, covers a length of 3.279 kilometers.

The Phase III Project of Shenzhen Metro Line 8 is the first subway line running to Dapeng New Area, and upon completion, it will connect with Phase I, Phase II and Phase III of Line 2 as well as Phase I and Phase II of Line 8. By then, the line will be a backbone rail transit artery connecting the districts of Nanshan, Futian, Luohu, Yantian with Dapeng New Area.

As a rail transit trunk corridor running through the east and west of Shenzhen and effectively serving the commuter passenger flow in Yantian and Dapeng, the new line will also play a key role in building Dapeng New Area into a concentration carrier for a global marine central city, and a world-class coastal eco-tourism resort.
