China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CREC4), a Hefei-based landmark unit of the centrally-administered China Railway Group Limited — a World Top 500 enterprise, has contributed over 120 billion yuan ($17.9 billion) to the gross domestic product of Anhui Province during the year 2022, helping boost its progress and showcasing the growing role of a centrally-administered enterprise.

In 2022, Anhui’s GDP reached some 4.5 trillion yuan, a year-on-year jump of 3.5 percent, helping usher in sound economic and social progress in its gaol to build a “beautiful Anhui.”

In 2022, CREC4 netted in a newly-signed contract value of 276.6 billion yuan and a business turnover of 152.6 billion yuan, both a year-on-year increase of over double digits. During the year, it was awarded the honour of a leading enterprise of construction quality in the nation’s engineering construction industry, and the only enterprise winning the “China Built” railway engineering brand in China.

According to Chen Zihua, a CREC4 publicity official, among CREC4’s contributions to Anhui’s GDP in 2022, the figure included 101 billion yuan for the provincial capital of Hefei.

In recent years, CREC4 has displayed a leading and pioneering role in seizing development opportunities with its industrial and engineering strength, and serving the development of Anhui, he said, noting that CREC4 has participated in railway, highway, urban rail, municipal engineering and other infrastructure construction in the eastern Chinese province.

In 2022 alone, CREC4 has undertaken a dozen major engineering projects such as Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan High-speed Railway, Hefei-Xinyi High Speed Railway, Chuzhou-Nanjing Intercity Rail, Line 8 of Hefei Metro, and Shexian-Chun’an Expressway, he said.

Meanwhile, CREC4 has taken part in building the massive water diversion project between the Yangtze and the Huaihe rivers — the second north-south waterway running over 1,000 kilometers after the existing Beijing-Hangzhou Canal zigzagging some 1,797 km. The immense project of Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion, with an expected total input of 91.27 billion yuan and a construction period of six years, started on December 29, 2016. The project is dubbed the No 1 Project for Anhui’s infrastructure construction.

In its engineering endeavors, CREC4 has adhered to a sustainable theme of green development, in its bid to promote an all-round high-quality development, Chen said.

In another development, Han Yonggang, general manager of CREC4, has been elected a deputy to the country’s top legislature — the National People’s Congress (NPC). Han is among the 111 such lawmakers from Anhui Province to the 14th NPC.
