Builders from China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CREC4) completed the connection of a 128-meter-long continuous beam on a super railway bridge traversing Qinhuaihe River in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, on July 12, marking a milestone in building the Nanyanjiang Intercity Railway.
The connection of the continuous beams will lay a solid foundation for the scheduled operation of the 278-kilometer high-speed railway, that connects Nanjing with the cities of Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou in Jiangsu.
With a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour for the trains, the Nanyanjiang Intercity Railway is a major artery in the comprehensive three-dimensional transport corridor in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The CREC4-contracted section, running for 24.51 kilometers, is located in the No 1 bid outside the railway stations, traversing Nanjing’s Qinhuai District and Jiangning District. Coming out of Nanjing South Station, it extends eastward on the southern side of Xianlin-Nanjing section of the Shanghai-Nanjing High-speed Railway.
The super bridge traversing the Qinhuaihe River is located in Jiangning District and has continuous beams in three sections — 72 meters + 128 meters + 72 meters — with 75 segments. The newly-finished part is the mid-span of 128 meters, and the pouring time cost about four hours.
“Due to continuous hot weather in recent days, the project department has taken effective measures to prevent heatstroke among our builders, and avoided construction at noon,” said Zhang Anchuan, Party secretary of the Nanyanjiang Intercity Railway subcommittee of CREC4. He noted that the builders are speeding up renovation on stations and beam erection construction, trying to finish all the work for the railway’s Nanjing section as soon as possible.
As the second intercity railway between Shanghai and Nanjing following the Shanghai-Nanjing High-speed Railway, the Nanyanjiang Intercity Railway can link the area’s prosperous cities and counties within an hour in transport.
