CREC4-built HSR line opened in Zhengzhou, boosting local transport2022-06-21 17:48:45

Central China’s Henan Province has put a new high-speed railway into operation in the provincial capital of Zhengzhou, amid its efforts to make the city into a transport hub.

The Zhengzhou Hangkonggang Railway Station (or literally Zhengzhou Airport Railway Station), formerly known as Zhengzhou South Railway Station prior to May 31, was opened to traffic on June 20 after four years of construction, for which the China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CREC4) is a builder.

The newly-named station will link with the existing Zhengzhou Railway Station and Zhengzhou East Railway Station to form a railway network for the city’s passenger transport. They can also connect with the Zhengzhou-Chongqing HSR, which was opened in November 2016, the Zhengzhou-Fuyang HSR, which was put into operation in December 2019, and the Zhengzhou-Xinzheng Airport Intercity Railway that was opened to traffic in December 2020, so that Zhengzhou’s status as an artery transport hub can be further elevated.

A total of 121 passenger trains can offer passenger services at this station, which formally started its construction in November 2017, according to Han Xinliang, publicity chief of CREC4 First Engineering Co., Ltd.

He said opening the new HSR will also play a key part in expanding the coverage area of Zhengzhou Xinzheng Airport and bolstering its Customs clearance capacity, while helping speed up the regional economic integration, and promote the progress of Central China.

Han said CREC4 undertook the construction of two bids in front of Zhengzhou Airport Station and one bid on the track-bearing platform. Its main construction work covers six super large bridges — with a total length of 26.7 kilometers — that can connect with Zhengzhou-Chongqing HSR and Zhengzhou-Fuyang HSR, a roadbed extending for 1.6 kilometers, the reserved part of the elevated parking lot, 16 houses as production and living facilities, prefabrication and erection of 786 box girders, as well as 107 kilometers of track laying for the main line.
